What is corporate massage? Let’s start with the basics. Here is the medical definition:
Massage: The manipulation of muscle and connective tissue to enhance the function of those tissues and promote relaxation and well-being. Therapeutic massage can ease tension and reduce pain. Massage can be a part of physical therapy or practiced on its own. It can also be highly effective for reducing the symptoms of arthritis, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other disorders of the muscles and/or nervous system.
So corporate massage just brings massage into the workplace! As you can see massage has many proven benefits.
What is different about corporate massage?

Massages are usually shorter in duration. Generally they are 15 or 30 minutes in duration but the amount of time can be set to accommodate the specific company. You can read more in the article How Effective is a 15 Minute Massage to get an idea of how even in that short amount of time so many health benefits can be achieved.

Clients don’t have to travel. The massage therapist will come to your place of work and set up for the day. This saves a lot of travel time going to and from your massage appointment. This convenience is a huge time saver for the employee. People don’t always take the time to take care of their health. This opens up massage to more people who otherwise would not take the time to schedule an appointment and then go to their appointment.

Corporate massage is done right through your clothing. Employees can come for their massage and get right back to work feeling refreshed and energized. There is no down time other than the actual appointment. Its also a great introduction for employees not familiar with massage.

The boss usually pays! Corporate massage is a great way to say thank you to the employees. If you would like to recommend corporate massage to your boss you can go to our Letter to the Boss page and download the letter and present it to your company. We know the boss won’t be able to resist this once presented with the idea!

We hope that we have provided you with a better understanding of corporate massage and we welcome your questions!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz! When was the last time you took a nap? Looks like this might be your month. August is National Napping Month!

Many countries see the value of a power nap. The tradition of napping or siesta as it is also called, has a long peaceful history. Taking a good afternoon nap is still quite popular in Spain, Italy and other countries of Southern Europe as well as in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

According to the November issue of the Harvard Health Letter, catching a daytime nap is a good way to catch up on the sleep you lose at night, sleep that may become more difficult as you age due to natural age-related decline in quality of your nighttime sleep.

Studies show that 10-20 minutes of sleep in the afternoon provides more rest than 20 minutes of more sleep in the morning. The body seems to be designed for this, as most people’s bodies naturally become more tired in the afternoon, about 8 hours after we wake up.

Unfortunately here in the United States taking naps during the workday is frowned upon and often grounds for termination. Getting massage during the workday is very acceptable though. Getting a 15 minute massage gives employees a chance to get off their feet and enjoy some down time to help them rejuvenate and have more energy for the rest of the day. Employees will also reap the many other health benefits of massage.

Massage relaxes your body helping you to sleep better in general. The relaxing effect of a massage stimulates the Parasympathetic Nervous System. The Parasympathetic Nervous System is most active during relaxed conditions which stimulates the function of the internal organs and maintains homeostasis or balance of the functions in the body.

Research shows that taking breaks between periods of productivity increases performance. A 15 minute massage session releases built up tension and clears the mind. National Napping Month is a great time to schedule a corporate massage event!

The 20th Annual Briggs-Scott Memorial Golf Tournament was held on April 24th, 2010 at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs in Phoenix, AZ. Kinkz Corporate Massage was there to offer massage services to all the golfers that generously raised money for this very worthwhile event.

The tournament honors the memory of Phoenix Police Officers Pat Briggs, killed in a traffic accident on June 20, 1990 and Beryl ‘Wayne’ Scott who was killed in the same manner at the same location on September 10, 2002. In order to forever remember the fallen officers, a golf tournament began in 1990 benefiting T.A.P.S. (Tuition Assistance for Police Survivors).

We were so excited to participate in this event. It truly was an honor to assist in raising money for such a worthy cause.

How many of us are really conscious of the power of touch. It seems that we go through a good part of our day with little to no human contact. We spend so much time on the computer or the phone and get so wrapped up in getting our work done and racing to the next event in our lives. Here is some food for thought to consider about the power of touch.

Touch is TEN times stronger than verbal communication and it allows us to release old pains and emotions stored in muscles. The Touch Research Institute (TRI) at the University of Miami School of Medicine devotes its studies solely to the effects of touch therapy.

TRI says it has carried out more than 100 studies in touch and found evidence of significant effects, including faster growth in premature babies, reduced pain, decreased autoimmune disease symptoms, lowered glucose levels in children with diabetes, and improved immune systems in people with cancer. It really is incredible that human touch can have such an impact on all of these conditions.

When you think about it, it really is human instinct. When people hurt themselves they instinctively touch the area that is affected. When a child gets hurt a parent will “kiss it to make it feel better”. Just the comfort of someone touching a child where they are hurt generally calms them down.

Science tells us that touch triggers the release of brain endorphins, which work as natural pain relievers. Touching can make your immune system stronger and your mood lighter. The more you are touched the better you feel. Touching is a necessity for a healthy life.

A fifteen minute or half-hour massage can boost your immune system and lessen stress making you feel calmer and happier. For some people who live alone, their massage might be the only time that they experience human touch. Massage is so much more than relieving sore muscles, it affects you on the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

Most on-site massage companies bring a massage chair to businesses offering short massages. Chair massage is very effective for short neck and shoulder massages. At Kinkz, we would like to introduce you to the top four reasons we feel using a massage table in the corporate setting is more beneficial.

1. It is easier for the client to get on and off the massage table. Personally I have always found it awkward to get in and out of a massage chair. For those that have long legs, are pregnant or have a larger body build, it can be very awkward if not impossible to sit in a massage chair.

2. It is generally more comfortable. Who would not want to lay down for even 15 minutes at work with the boss’s permission! When you sit at a desk all day and you go to get your 15 minute chair massage, you have only moved a few inches from the position you have been in all day. The table allows you to get off your feet and feel rejuvenated.

3. It is easier on the massage therapist’s body. If the therapist is tense it will come through in your massage. If your therapist is comfortable and using good body mechanics you will ultimately have a better massage. The body mechanics that are utilized with a massage table are much easier on the therapist body.

4. We can do a full body massage even in 15 minutes. Check out the article titled How Effective is a 15 Minute Massage. It really is amazing how much we can get done in that short time, improving morale and the overall health of employees.

At Kinkz we are dedicated to making corporate massage a great experience for both the business and the massage therapist. We strongly believe that table massage is the way to go.

If the boss can get a Bosses Day then it’s only fair and appropriate that employees get a day in their honor too. Employee Appreciation Day honors employees everywhere.

Celebrations for Employee Appreciation Day are created and executed by the companies. Recognitons vary widely and may include lunch, snacks, small recognition gifts and of course company sponsored massage right at the workplace. Don’t expect the day off, chances are it just won’t happen.

As we researched Employee Appreciation Day, we wondered if it was a coincidence that Employee Appreciation Day and Bosses Day are six months apart…..hmmmmmm.

Be sure to check out the article on Employee Appreciation Day on March 9, 2009 to see how your company can get a FREE hour from Kinkz Corporate Massage!

Job Woes

It’s impossible to get anything done. You can’t concentrate. Your lower back aches. You’ve been hunched over at your desk all day and your neck hurts.

Your job can make strenuous demands on your body.

Most of us perform certain tasks over and over throughout the day. While heavy labor such as lifting, carpentry, or welding is an obvious physical stressor, even the simple repetitive motions called for in duties like typing, answering phones, or computer data can cause you many problems.

The face of the American work-place has changed drastically over the past few years. As corporate down-sizing continues, fewer workers, adding to an already stressful work environment perform more tasks.

When deadlines are crushing and keeping up with all the new technology have you over-whelmed where can you turn for relief?

You may find the answer with on-site massage.

Investment in Wellness

Workplace stress results in lower productivity, increased absenteeism, and job related accidents. Realizing that preventative measures are needed in today’s environment of skyrocketing health costs, businesses and corporations are investing heavily in wellness programs for the workplace.
Many companies are finding that on-site massage can be an important part of a successful wellness program.

Why On-Site

An on-site corporate massage is convenient. The therapist comes directly to your office or work-site with portable massage equipment.

The procedure won’t disrupt your workday. More invigorating than a fifteen or twenty minute coffee break, on-site massage usually takes about the same time and produces better results. Work-site corporate massage takes no special effort or training on your part. All you need to do is relax and enjoy.

Easing Your Stress

Accumulated stress and tension always diminish your energy and vitality. The rejuvenating effects
of a massage in the middle of your workday can invigorate you as it loosens your tense muscles and stimulates circulation. Your ability to think and concentrate will be enhanced. You’ll feel alert and refreshed.

Relaxation: A total body massage using the desired pressure. A massage for relaxation and tension release.

What exactly is stress? The dictionary defines stress as “great pressure or force, strain”. In today’s world we refer to stress as the result of too much pressure laid upon us by life. The environments ability to affect any individual stressfully is more often than not determined by the individuals attitude of mind.

Of all the modern day ailments that seem to affect us, none is more pervasive than stress. It seems that everywhere we turn there are many factors that redirect us from a state of happiness to the feelings of stress. Today with pending layoffs and little to no pay raises, the work place is a major factor in adding to our everyday stress.

Stress can manifest itself in our bodies in many ways, such as tight neck and shoulders, headaches, and nervous stomach. Too much stress in our lives causes constant muscular tension. This tension or tightness reduces the flow of blood and oxygen, nerve and lymph supply, or the more subtle energy, life force or chi. Reducing this flow leads to feelings of fatigue, and reduces flexibility and range of motion increasing the likelihood of injury and build up of toxins in the body. Generally blocked energy is felt as aches and pains but can eventually lead to a wide range of more serious problems. When we get stressed our immune systems begin to break down and become weakened making us more susceptible to illness.

What can Corporate America do to combat this problem? Regular massage is the ideal remedy to help relieve the stress of our everyday lives. More and more companies are offering massage to their employees right at the workplace. These companies report seeing great results such as reduced absenteeism. decreased health care costs, increased morale and reductions in repetitive injuries to name just a few. Improved health benefits both the employer and the employee making on-site massage a win win situation.

Massage can help the mind and body to deal with stress on a day to day basis and promote a feeling of well-being. When we hurt ourselves it is instinctive to rub ourselves where we are hurt. We have always used touch to reassure and calm ourselves and others. Massage makes us aware of how and where stress manifests itself in the form of tension in our bodies. First you might experience relief from massage by loosening tense muscle, but there are so many more benefits.

Massage will increase blood and lymph circulation, which helps your body to receive essential nutrients, dispose of waste products, and defend against disease by improving the immune system. Massage can restore suppleness and strength to your muscles improving flexibility and range of motion. It helps to release toxins, such as lactic acid, as well as relieving tight or sore muscles. Massage also improves sleep allowing your body that important time it needs to heal.

As you can see, massage offers more benefits than you may have imagined. Companies that utilize on-site massage therapy see amazing results in the overall health of their employees. It is good to know that something that feels so great can contribute to your long-term health as well.
